~~~Shinigami~~~
Name:Yasuo Wakahisa
Alias: The Dispatcher, The Wizard, The Crow's Feather
Age: 1792
Visual Age: 22
Gender: Male
Division:0
Rank: Royal Guard
--------------------Persona--------------------
Appearance: A man without a face. That is one way to describe Yasuo. Although this is not entirely true, that is how it looks for the naive. You see, the face of Yasuo is usually pitch black with two yellow eyes, piercing the darkness in his face. He always wears this black hat which resembles the stereotypical wizard hat that most people would think of it as such, hence one of his nicknames "The Wizard". There is no particular reason as to why he wears it. It is mostly because its strikes his fancy. The hat is what is usually concealing his face. It creates a thick shadow which almost everything under it, with the occasional slip up whereyou can see parts of his hair and skin. To accompany his unnecessarily large wizard hat, he wears a long dark cloak which resembles a Shinigami uniform in colour but is not quite the same. It reaches all the way down to his feet and has a collar that reaches up through his neck regions and covers up parts of his mouth and the lower back of his head region, helping reinforce the black curtain around his face. It Under the cloak is his real Shinigami uniform which is rather new looking even though it is over a few hundred years old. The uniform is big on the man who is 6'0 feet exactly. He wears gloves to cover his hands as well as nice old fashion Shinigami sandals that match his uniform underneath. His feet are very rarely seen though, due to his cloak usually covering them up. Yasuo, does have a face under that hat and cloak though, so this should probably be described as well. He resembles a young man in his 20's, which is rather surprising, because he is so old, even most shinigami would have aged tremendously by this time and at least appear to be in their early forties late thirties, not this guy though. He still looks as young as ever, with his light brown hair, that reaches down to parts of his neck and bright yellow eyes. He is quite well built, able to take some big hits and not break and has a very cheery look on his face. Most people do not see his face though so his facial expressions are usually a secret, shared among only a select few who know him well enough that they can read his emotions. So this concludes our overview of the faceless man with a face.
Personality: The mind of Yasuo Wakahisa is a brilliant mind full of wondrous things. It is chock full of thoughts. Good thoughts, bad thoughts, even some weird thoughts, they can all be found with in his head somewhere. But don't take this the wrong way. He is not crazy. Well, maybe a little, but he is able to restrain himself most of the time, so its not noticeable to most around him. Yasuo usually appears to be quite joyous those around him. Creating a nice character. He is also very friendly to complete strangers and generous to those around him. This is one of his many qualities that make him both a kind man and a great teacher. Yasuo is extremely knowledgeable. He is quite familiar with reiatsu, sciences, machines, and kido. He has studied countless things with his grasp of the physical and spiritual worlds through out the years, making himself one of the wisest Shinigami of the time, and also one of the strongest. Yasuo is extremely proficient in Shunpo and knows his fair share of kido as well. He is also no slouch with a sword or martial arts, and he is not afraid to demonstrate it. despite all this, he can appear to be quite forgetful and clumsy but shows a chill and cool demeanor when dealing with it. Even though his appearance makes one think he is a serious, almost wicked, man he shows the guise of a lax fella, who is very approachable. This man isn't entirely fun and games though. He does have this serious side of which seems like it would suit his appearance far more. This serious side of him is what one would deem, his normal self. With the other goofy version, something for the underlings so they find him, less scary then his appearance already makes them believe, and also helps ease tension for the younger crowd. So this serious side is usually reserved for serious conversations among his equals and superior, of which are very few. His normal self is a calculative man, but still generous and kind to those he believes deserve it, such as his comrades and humans, not willing to sacrifice others lives for something they are not a part of, finding this despicable and unjust. He doesn't see fighting as the first option in any confrontation, this doesn't mean he wont resort to it, but it is not his usual approach. This doesn't make him a coward, for he will fight for what he believes in or for the sake of bettering another, seeing each generation of captains as a new hope. This also makes his job so much more saddening, for he has seen his own students fall in battle before. He doesn't take death very easy, but who does. He believes communication is key to a fight, either between himself and his zanpakuto or another person. He holds no sympathy towards his enemies, usually leaving them to die, or just executing them himself. He is cruel to those heading in the wrong path, the path of destruction, even if he once knew this person. This is what lead him to create some of his most influential creations, such as the Denreishinki and the hell butterflies, which also came from some of his ideas mentioned earlier. He takes his duty as one of the royal guards very seriously, especially when protecting the royal family. He does see that the Soul King can protect himself though so he does not fret when he is not by his side. He also views the rest of the Royal Guard as quite capable individuals and holds a lot of respect for them as comrades and usually attempts to be friendly towards them. He can also be quite the perv, but that is all I will say on that matter. He is a complicated fella, Yasuo is.
--------------------History--------------------
History: Yasuo has lived for quite a long time so he has quite the history to tell. He was once a normal human, living among the living as he should, without any knowledge of what was going on behind the scenes, oblivious to the monstrosities that would kill the poor defenseless humans without remorse or warning. Was this a good thing or a bad thing though? He was unsure. The constant fear of being killed by something that they couldn't kill or even see. It would drive the human race nuts just trying to figure them out, let alone fight back against them, this does not include the Quincy or the new rising of the Fullbringer however. Those two, special races of human were quite aware and fully capable of fighting back, the ones being referred to are the ones with no reiatsu besides the necessary amount used to live. What would those helpless fools do? Would they hire the stronger human sub-species or would they cower in fear of the mighty forces of nature,t beyond their own control? What an interesting experiment that would be. Too bad there would be no easy way to test it.
Well besides his normal life, his death was quite magnificent, and by magnificent, I mean he was killed in an alley by some common criminal who was short on spare change. The man was only 17 at the time, going for his daily dose of, well you know where this is going. He may have been a druggie, or maybe he was just sick, or maybe he was getting it for his grandma who was almost on her death bed and needed this medication to make a full recovery, so he volunteered to purchase this stuff but he couldn't afford it so he had to buy it illegally from some shady dudes in weird dressing and code names in the middle of the bad part of a small town in an alley, or maybe he really was just a druggie, who knows, he certainly didn't.
So he had died attempting to save his grandma apparently, or maybe he really was the kind of person at that time, er I mean, yea grandma saver, that is totally what he was doing, nothing else at all, just pure delivery boy in tragic event, in no way shape or form just a teenager looking for a good time and abusing his privileges and laws, which had yet to exist. Nope, no sir, this was not him. Or at least that's not him now. Well, all this was lost when he died, he was hit numerous times by several knives, in the kneecap, of which he screamed ridiculously loud, yelling curse words like no tomorrow, which their was none for him, and cursing this guys terrible aim for having missed the head shot the mugger had said he was going to get, so after several terrible throws, hitting every thing but vital organs, Yasuo just decided to give up and dragged himself over to the terrible shot and told the man to just stick the dagger into to the back of his head, for this was the worst kind of torture he had ever endured, let alone the worst unintentional torture. So yes, this was fun time for him in the world of the living, and after all that, the mugger had forgot to take the money. That jerk.
So after being dead for a couple minutes, his soul rose over the corpse. Looking down upon it, he didn't recognize it at all. All that blood lose and shot to the head had seemingly made him lose his memory, don't ask how, but it did, and that's all that matters. This was a good thing though. He was no longer this unruly, hooligan of a boy. He had a fresh start, with nothing holding him back from this new destiny that he could mold by himself, but he did notice this strange chain protruding from out of his chest. That was new, and even he knew that. At least his common sense still remained, not that this was one of his best senses, looking at how he had ended up, hopefully this new start would help him fix these troubles, or at least that is what he was hoping for, cause otherwise he would be screwed. Twice.
Life as a plus next, eh? Well that is an easy one. He had fun as a plus, walking round the city like he use to, not that he remembered that he did this, but that was alright. There was just one thing that got him. The Hollows. The same creatures that ate both Humans and Shinigami the same. Evil creatures those Hollows are. Preying on the weak. Yasuo didn't like this. He found this unjust and unfair for those suckers who didn't know what was going on. He cheered on the occasional samurai like figure that would appear and kill the ugly masked beasts of which he had little sympathy for at all. They didn't seem to have any brains at all, those creatures from hell, which would be an incorrect way to address them saying there are separate creatures that dwell in that vile place, but it was probably the first thing that would come to a newcomers head when witnessing these monsters in action.
He had yet to understand anything though, how the Shinigami functioned, how hollows evolved, whether he would stay on the human world for the rest of his life. He was clueless, but he would learn, he would have to. If he was to survive in this cruel world based on the survival of the fit. This world, ruled by gods beyond any ones understanding, absolute beings, pure in form and shape, reiatsu beyond everything else on the world. Incredible things they were, something most people in search of power would strive for. Power hungry beasts, only wanting it for themselves, not for others. Selfish things. It made Yasuo's new found conscience sick, it filled him with anger that beings like that were allowed to exists in this world. How could someone be so naive and self-centered. This is the thing Yasuo wanted to get rid of in the world. For the sake of the weak, for his friends, and for everyone else. This did not mean he was against the gods that had already taken shape, these creatures created the balance. No, they ARE the balance of the worlds. Without them, everything would fall into chaos, and chaos was not some pushover. Chaos was something stronger then just about everything, the gods were the only things holding it back from taking over, and for this very reason, they were to be kept alive.
Yasuo had his soul chain slowly eat at itself, suffering intense pain for quite a while now. He didn't know what to do, for he was still unaware of the Shinigami ability to send souls to "Paradise" or better known as the outskirts of this "Paradise", AKA the Rukongai districts. It probably could have used a bit of remodeling or at least a better way of referring it to, something that is a much easier describing word for it, so the new souls don't become as disappointed when they finally arrive to this compost heap of puny souls with no real privileges or use. It must have been extremely aggravating for most souls when they believe they are going to the all-inclusive hotel for life then end up in a 2nd rate run down motel, invested with all sorts of vermin. Most would probably attempted suicide, some for the second time, and then from there, who knows what they would become.
Well, Yasuo had been found by this spiritual samurai. It was a young women who looked a lot like a man, or was it a man who looked a lot like a women? It was hard to tell, lighting and all that, it would be hard for most people in the pain he was enduring because of the depleting soul chain. Actually, it was probably a women. Or maybe it was a man? It was to hard to remember, so we will just say for the sake of the story that it was a women. Well the women had found him almost knocked out on the street corner, under a street lantern of some sort. around twilight. She had quickly rushed to the nearly unconscious man who was so close to becoming a hollow. She whacked him upside the head with the hilt of her zanpakuto, missing the konso. She squealed right before saying she was sorry, and then proceeded to use the konso properly. He whispered out a thank you before being sent off to the afterlife. He had felt that he would enjoy this new life in this new place. He was sort of right, this was a new life and new place, but he, in no way, would enjoy it, not the first parts of it anyways.
He would awaken in the outskirts of this ugly little town from the looks of it, almost deserted it seemed, with the occasional person walking down the unkempt dirt roads. It could have used a little colour too. It was a dusty brown town with a lot of rust all over the metal roofs that covered the dirty wooden houses that surrounded the area. His first impression was: Paradise looks like shit. This was a rather blunt statement, hitting the bulls eye perfectly, though. Very little people would show themselves to him. They seemed almost afraid to answer any questions he might have had about this town of shacks and poor. Were they afraid of a newcomer with no powers other then a small amount of physical strength. A very sad amount of it to be exact, well for a shinigami or arrancar anyways. It was a decent amount for the average human, but he was no longer an average human, so he would have to go through rigorous training and intense reiatsu exercises if he were to reach his present day level of power. So he had a long ways to go and only so much time to reach it, but he didn't know this, and toke his time at first, he didn't even know where to start for he was still unaware of all these things, but he did finally learn much about the shinigami and the Gotei 13, including their purpose as the defenders of the Soul society and the slayers of Hollows.
Know he eventually grew accustomed to the Rukongai district he was plopped down in. He even learned that this was the 27th Rukongai district. Not one of the worst yet not the best, which came as quite the surprise. He would have thought that this was a lower district, for this was a terrible district, a ruined land with little farming capabilities and barely able to sustain any life, even if they were already dead, it was disappointing. He was still making a living for himself though, he had found a nice family that he would work for and in return they would give him some of the little money they had and a nice place to sleep. The family also had quite the daughter. She was lovely in just about every way. It wouldn't be wrong to say Yasuo had a bit of a crush on this women, and she would sometimes return the attraction. If anything, it was the only thing keeping him there. It was slowly becoming obvious of his potentials as a soul keeper though, for he occasionally suffered through starvation, a sign of higher then usual reiatsu, which later would translate into the ability to become a Shinigami, but he had no intentions of leaving this place. The family he worked for though, thought otherwise, they believed that their little yard worker had potential to become a great Shinigami and wanted him to pursue this greater calling.
They constantly pushed him harder then ever, training him without his own knowing. They were preparing him to enter the Shinigami academy of which he had still refused to join. He had wanted to stay with his lover, but she also knew that it would be better if he were to go to train in the Seireitei. They all knew that the shinigami style of life was hundreds of times better then those of the normal Pluses out in the Rukongai. It was rather frustrating that those fortunate enough to be born with some extra reiatsu be allowed to live better then those who unfortunately did not. This was something he had wanted to change. He found the way things were ordered as silly and unfair for those poor mistreated Rukongai dwellers, even though some of them deserved to live in these ugly places, a lot of them were kind of heart and deserved much better treatment then those that they were currently being given. Equal treatment between the people and the Shinigami, that was his goal when entering the Academy, but he wouldn't be able to keep this ideal all the way through. Unforeseen circumstances would impact him much more, creating a much more serious and different goal, of course, this would come much later in his life.
He eventually was let go after one final argument between him and his master, or rather his boss. This was a very heated argument, with his boss trying to persuade this man into joining the Academy one last time. Yasuo being a strong young man with a much higher reiatsu then even most of the souls attempting to become shinigami, from all the training he had received over the years, so it wasn't because he thought he couldn't do it. He just had grown so attached to his employers, and the young maiden even more so, that he didn't want to leave, his mind wouldn't let him leave. So his boss toke the only option left to take. He fired him. Yasuo could no longer stay in this house, forbidden to see their daughter and no longer allowed to work for them ever again. At first, Yasuo toke this as a joke. They wouldn't fire their best and one of their only workers would they? But then reality slowly caught up to him. He was a shattered man. No longer as happy as he was with his job. It was almost as if someone had stabbed him through the heart. So this was it, he was forced to leave, and when to travel the other Rukongai districts.
Yasuo would travel through the districts, back and forth for a month or so, almost convinced he was still dreaming, his eyes showing signs of disbelieve at all time and sleep deprivation. His yellow eyes were becoming dull. Not as bright and passionate as they once were. He would stop at bars just about every night and drink himself to sleep, till he was kicked out and left to sleep outside like a dog. Eventually, he grew tired of this, who wouldn't? This wasn't the new life he had pictured for himself, so he decided to end it. He had gotten sick of it, buying, with the little money he had, some drugs, enough drugs for him to overdose and end it all. He had found the perfect place to do it too. It was the end for him. The end of the story of Yasuo, the great plus of the 27th district.
But we cant end this story on a sour note. And if he was to die now then this application would be rather silly wouldn't it? So instead, he had come to a realization, before taking the pills he saw a young boy getting beat up by a gang of bigger and stronger men. Yasuo minded his own business though, watching from afar, when all of a sudden a robed man had appeared. This man had a sword on his side and a long white haori. This elderly man came to the aid of the boy, quickly and swiftly taking care of the gang of hooligans. They attempted punching and kicking him, but the swift movements and strikes of the elder man were far too much. They were soon overwhelmed and were laying on the ground, passed out. the older man then gave the boy a hard candy and left. Yasuo had a this face of tremendous surprise across his face. This was completely unexpected of the old man. He had looked so frail and even more defenseless then the boy. Was that the power of a shinigami? The ability to defend the weak?
It wasn't long after that Yasuo had set off, towards the Seireitei and enrolled in the Shinigami Academy, with new determination that was not there before. He had joined up with the shinigami forces in the academy. Learning at the same pace as the others, somethings a little faster then others, such as shunpo, he had great proficiency when it came to shunpo, he also seemed to have an affinity for kido, but it didn't quite rival his shunpo skills. The academy was the place where he gained his first zanpakuto, the sword that would later become his, and only his. At first it started as a generic spirit, like all zanpakuto that later morphed into what was to be known as his greatest partner, his Zanpakuto spirit. He would rely on this person time and time again through out his life to save his life, either with wisdom or brute strength.
He progressed at a faster rate then most shinigami, quickly graduating before the rest. Reaching a respectable power level that even his teachers were impressed with, he had gained a few friends while learning the art of the soul reaper. Enough to make it by. But his knowledge and pure talent at the craft was impressive, and it had been already decided that he would eventually be able to reach rank of captain if h continued at this rate. He was proud of his accomplishments, and he had every right to be. He had done what he was born to do. He was proficient at killing the mechanical hollows, created solely for practice and had shown that he could easily hold his own against the real thing, no sweat. His goals and determination allowed him to get to these new heights. Eventually he had become so strong that he had earned a Lieutenant position straight out of the academy. this was quite the promotion, especially so early in his career. He was so glad that he decided he would go off to see his former employers, also known as his last family, including the young maiden he had never quite forgotten about.
Yasuo had kept in touch with the family through the use of mail and other messages, but he was never quite sure if they had ever arrived or if they even read them, but he felt that he had to do it. It was a way to clear his conscience, but after everything he had done, he felt that he was finally able to confront them, after having become the man they always knew he was going to be. He knew that without their help he would not have been able to gain such a high up position or even get through training so fast, so it was only natural to say thank you.
While on his way, the sky began to darken the closer he got, but there was no rain. He started walking a bit faster then the usual. The closer he got, the darker it became. He was only a short distance away when he heard screaming, and then quickly saw a Garganta above the district that was once his home. Yasuo quickly sprinted towards the town, which was being ravaged by fire and attacked by vicious hollows. How did they even get in? He may never find out, but he knew there was only one thing to do. He quickly shunpo'd across the town killing hollows all the way to his former home to witness it, burning up. He saw the horror left by the hollows. He screamed out for his former family. Attempting to find them in the wreckage, to no avail. He quickly searched the area, till he found her.
He found the sweet maiden, lovely even in death. She was stuck under a long and breathing heavily. Yasuo quickly pushed the log off of her. Kneeling down and then stroking her cheek as his eyes filled with tears. Her rib cage had collapsed and her lungs were beyond repair. She was not going to make it. Yasuo screamed, trying to deny it. She comforted him as she slowly slipped away from him. She then finally dropped dead. Anger quickly replaced the tears in the new shinigamis eyes. He quickly found himself a weird, wizard shaped hat, which he plopped down on his head, and stumbled upon a cloak not too far from the hat. He had soon put the clothing on and turned with eyes that could pierce even the devils own soul. The yellow gleaming eyes that would later become his trademark feature were born.
Yasuo, quickly jumped into action, using his advanced shunpo and his zanpakuto to quickly dispatch of the Hollows in the vicinity. He went to save every villager he could, not allowing anymore people to fall to these creatures. Eventually some other shinigami arrived, but it was a little too late, Yasuo had killed the hollows in the area, faster then it would have taken an entire battalion. This was an incredible feat, even for a lieutenant, for these were many different hollows, not the weak hollows most people are accustomed to, there were also some Adjuchas mixed in there. This cemented his position and also his new look.
Yasuo, with no real meaning in life anymore, decided to dedicate his life to his training. He entered the 8th division as the lieutenant to a well-renown captain. This man looked to be around his late-thirties but he was quite capable appearing to still be in his prime. Yasuo quickly grew attached to this man, for he was kind and a great teacher, wise as well. He had found himself a new home along with his new teammates and fellow officers. He even helped his senpai build or rather breed these new creatures, called Hell butterflies, that could carry messages to others, receiving half the credit. His new found friendships would last for a while as he slowly began to find his bankai.
Yes, that is right, he had already started learning the second stage to his zanpakuto true powers. Something most Shinigami only wished they could attempt to start, let alone actually achieve its full form. But Yasuo wasn't like most shinigami, he had raw determination and the power to back it all up too. He had gained enough attention from his captain that he was able to get some lessons from him and through their years of serving together, he finally did it. He was able to use a rudimentary form of his bankai. It was still far from perfect manipulation of it, but it could still technically be used in a fight as a last resort tactic.
Most of life went on as usual, the occasional easy mission would come along once or twice and everyone lived in peace, that is, until one fateful night. It was late one evening when the entire 8th division was out, drinking their worries away after a successful operation. they were full of glee and drank for hours, but they weren't alone. Strange figures dressed in white cloaks were hiding in he shadows. The group was out in a bar in the human world, away from other soul reaper parties and unable to contact the soul society, but they didn't think they needed to, they felt safe for now, they had their captain and a bunch of strong able bodies, and moral was high, little did they know, none of this would matter.
An explosion toke out half the building, killing a substantial amount of the group amazingly quick. This was a cero after all, and a strong one at that. The Captain and the remaining Soul Reapers quickly ran outside, facing many hooded creatures in white. These were Arrancars, but the Shinigami had no idea, this was in a time where Arrancar had yet to make appearances in places other then legends. They had no previous experience dealing with these intelligent shinigami like hollows, so they were at a strong disadvantage, after that initial attack, they were outnumbered as well. This didn't stop them though. The Shinigami would strike, firing kido and attacking with their zanpakuto. It was quite the battle to witness. Both sides suffering heavy loses. Yasuo was able to use his speed to his advantage to quickly out maneuver two arrancars, having them hurt each other with their own cero, and then creating a small brawl between the two, it was actually quite comical. Till they started to kill each other that is. With his enemies down he quickly moved to help his captain. His captain was fighting the strongest of them all. They were clashing with immense spiritual pressure, making it hard to intervene, then the captain unleashed shikai and his enemy changed forms as well. Yasuo wasn't going to be able to easily join this fight so instead he went to help the others, he did his best to dispatch his enemies, swiftly and cunningly, using more kido then sword movements, but he was too late for one of them, this one was one of his best friends though. He was stabbed right through the chest. He was unable to contact help in time because his fight had taken them far away from the fight and only through some acute reiatsu sensing was Yasuo able to find him.
This is when Yasuo realized his captain was still fighting. He quickly rushed over to watch his captain and the string Arrancar run each other through, killing each other. Gruesome. Then more holes in the sky opened when the strongest reiatsu source was destroyed. This brought even more trouble to his crew. They would all quickly scatter. Hiding in every place imaginable. Yasuo quickly stumbled into a building where he found a strange device. This was an early telegram that he had found, an object used to transfer messages across the land for humans. He quickly used some of his engineering knowledge, which wasn't much and mixed it with his vast kido knowledge, creating the prototype Denreishinki. Though still lacking many of its features, it held the key feature of contacting the Soul Society. It was a strange event when clicking noises could be heard from most of the machines but the Shinigami were able to trace the location.
Reinforcements arrived to save the day back in the world of the living. It was thanks to Yasuo that they were saved. It was only too bad that the idea didn't come sooner and he could have potentially saved all of his friends and captain. This was a tragic loss to everyone. It had been rumored that his captain would have been offered a spot on the royal guard, but it seemed he wasn't strong enough. The 8th division went without a captain for a quite sometime, about a year. Yasuo had been in charge, till eventually the other captains had decided to grant him the position, having known that he had learned how to use his bankai and was familiar with the duties.
There was a grand ceremony for him, coming from his comrades and fellow captains, for they all knew it was just a matter of time before he would have been promoted. He knew what he was doing too, able to train the recruits and complete the paper work right on time. He was a model Shinigami and well suited for the job. He toke the job quite seriously though, for the loved ones he had lost and the friends who fell in battle, that was his motivation to keep fighting.
Then the war started. Not the shinigami and arrancar war, but the bount and quincy war. Yes, the shinigami were not necessarily involved, not as a whole, but that did not mean they were not affected by this on going war. They had soldier on the line, trying to make out victors, for both races were considered threats, but they were never as feared as when the death of one of the greatest 12th division captains happened. Now it is a foggy memory to most people, but for Yasuo it was a life changing moment.
You see, the war was quite intense at the time, both sides were killing just because they were told to, they didn't care who or what it was they were slaying, they just murdered them all. The Shinigami were there to retrieve souls of the dearly departed and maintain balance between the souls being erased out of existence, but this was no easy task. It would take three different divisions, to maintain the equilibrium. Quite terrible. Yasuo was stationed with the 12th division while the 3rd was stationed far off in another battleground, not quite as big. This was an intense position, being so close to both enemy lines, even a captain would have troubles killing two entire races who are boiling with anger and armed to the bone. Bigger numbers had a funny way of overpowering others.
The 12th was enraged with this war, seeing how many innocent bystanders were getting killed. She was a very ethical women, more so then Yasuo. She had considered it her job to keep them away from towns that would otherwise be obliterated by one of the two sides. Yasuo usually kept his eye on her, to make sure she wasn't focused on, and overwhelmed. It was some tough times and people didn't know what was going on, vampires fighting against strange priests. Seemed like something out of legends, and that is what it later became, stories of ancient warriors fighting creatures of strange origin.
Arrows flew through the air, while the 12th rushed to a small town in the middle of the battlefield. Yasuo was close behind, hoping they wouldn't get to involved, but they were going to be in the middle of the front lines. This was not the case though. The Quincy were actually heading back, not wanting to fight this lopsided battle. The Shinigami were not aware of this though so they continued forward, till they reached their destination. It was only the two of them, the 12th and 8th division captains. The bount were quickly moving to take the entire land, the Shinigami heading straight into the middle of it. On there way, the 12th had been talking to Yasuo, telling him what her reasons were for joining the gotei, she explained her admiration for the soul king and the royal family. They were becoming good friends out in war, something a bit unusual and unnecessary during wars. If anything, it was one of the worst thinks you could do to yourself psychologically. It opened bonds that could be cut off any second.
After finally reaching the town, they saw ruins. The leftovers of the quick bount invasion. This angered the 12th so much, she lost all her common sense, and rashly jumped in to kill all of the bount bastards that were responsible for this tragedy. Yasuo attempted to talk some sense into her, but it was too late, she had already activated bankai and were swatting them down like flies. Yasuo tried to help, but he was unsure if he should, for then they would have entered the war, creating a three-way battle for supremacy and this would have brought so much more casualties then they expected. Then, the Shinigami reiatsu that filled the air disappeared. Yasuo quickly found her. She had a huge gapping hole in the middle of her chest cavity, and was slowly bleeding out. Yasuo was stunned, quickly going to her side. Her final words, "Protect the King and he will protect the weak". This was a motto used by a once well known captain that she had just repeated. Yasuo toke not only these words, but also her ideals and ethics, quickly integrating them to the way he would work in the future, as he toke her body back the soul society He toke this loss as his own fault, for if he had helped sooner, she could have been saved, but the other captains didn't see it that way. They had believed that he did the right thing, having prevented war. The funeral was quite grand, or at least as grand as a funeral ever was. Not happy, but a very respectable way to have a funeral.
His actions during the rest of the war were so influential that the soul king had contacted him. He had recieved a letter and an invitation to join the Royal Guards. His Denreishinki having become a mandatory Shinigami device, now haven been upgraded to the recent models, with all their utility and allowing the Shinigami stationed at the world in the living new ways to work, safer ways to work. His personal exploits being just as great. He wasn't sure about it all though, not sure if he wanted to accept and leave all his comrades just like that. This was an invitation to the royal guard though, so even if he wanted to, he just couldn't refuse it like that. So he would set off, to the domain of the Soul King as the newest Royal Guard.
He would enjoy his time as a Royal Guard, it was a life of luxury after all, with almost no duties to attend to, for not many people were brave enough, or dumb enough to attack the Soul King, so he would mostly spend his time with the Royal Family(which may or may not exist in this universe). Also getting along with his fellow members of the guard. It was fun times. Till the real war started.
This wasn't the Quincy Bounto war this time. Now I am referring to the Arrancar Shinigami war. Now, the Royal Guard wasn't actually a part of this, or rather, not all of them, The former member Xion was on the front lines but thats not the point. The thing was, The guard payed close attention to the fight, for they would have to join in if there was unfavorable winners, this was nerve wrecking though, for the weaker soul reapers were like sheep being thrown to the wolves. Yasuo hated this. It was treating their soldiers as if they were easily replaced, which they were but still, this wasn't the way he wanted to see them die.
Before the war even ended though, Yasuo resigned from his position, or rather, gave his position to a prospect, more like early retirement, and so he headed to the Rukongai, severing his old ties with the Gotei and the Guard. Instead he became a teacher for the younger souls in the Rukongai. Teaching was something he enjoyed. It was something he grew to love to do when he was still with his old lieutenant spot, and his captain. He did what he could to ignore the war and luckily, they never made it into the Soul Society thanks to the valiant efforts of Captain Commander Xion, Yasuo had expected no less from him.
Then came the scandal, the new Royal Guard and even some of the old ones, attempted to assassinate the Soul King, the very person they were supposed to protect. This was a secret though, so it didn't get to Yasuo in time, and he would have never heard about it, that is if they hadn't asked him to come back. Yes, that is right, he was asked to come back to the Royal Guard for the time being, for they needed reliable soldiers and Yasuo had certainly proved himself to be one. He accepted on one condition. That the Rukongai districts be treated better, remodeled, starting from the 1 all the way to the bottom, but this would be a slow process and changes wouldn't be very noticeable, but it was better then nothing, so Yasuo agreed and returned to the Royal Guard.
